This year's ADIM conference was held at the beautiful seaside retreat that is Asilomar Conference Grounds (Pacific Grove, CA). There were two projects: (1) a photo retouch in the style of the Renaissance masters and (2) a Shakespearean-inspired book created from laser-engraved and cut wood with the interior pages on very high-quality Epson watercolor paper. We were free to do whatever came to mind and let our imagination carry us.

I struggled a bit more this year... until I stumbled upon the idea of doing a lute sound hole for the center. Then the rest fell into place. Luckily, I'd come fully-stocked with book binding supplies and had the waxed linen thread in my kit. It was all up to getting the measurements and assembly correct. I drew the center lute sound hole design and the extra embellishments I had in my stock designs kit.

Interior pages were done with a mixture of textures, public domain images, and images provided to us by ADIM. The outside quote around the center design, as well as the two sonnets used on the interior pages... all by Shakespeare. The "tuning pegs" were added as an afterthought and were laser cut and had the gold "stain" hand-applied.

All ended well with this being the top winning project of ADIM15. Looking forward to next year!
